FAQ
Who are the Philistines?
The Philistines are the enemies of Israel. But the Philistines are not only enemies, they are also men. As men they are also like the Jews, for all are uncircumcised in heart and ears. Salvation shall also come to these people who do not belong to the people of God.
Why does Samson want to marry a woman of the Philistines?
The connection between Judaism and paganism is begun here with a planned marriage. Today it is common in Judaism to marry into the nations. The Jews should actually be the bringer of salvation for the nations. The enmity is removed by the death of Jesus.
Why does the Jewish couple leave their people?
The forthcoming engagement causes the parents to go with them to the enemies of Israel? Had not Moses already married a Cushite woman? Gen 12:1 The nations are to be included in God's plan of salvation.
Who is the lion?
The answer can be guessed. The lion must serve Samson to experience the power of God, he must serve the young Philistines to keep their garments, and he must also serve the parents, Judaism, who are eating its honey. The lion is the lion of Judah; he is killed. This is the surprising statement in the story of Samson. It is confirmed in Rev 5:5 And one of the elders said unto me, Weep not! Behold, the Lion of Judah has overcome the root of David to open the book and its seven seals. When did the young lion become a full-grown lion? The dead lion cannot grow. The lion as a whole is an interpretation of the Messiah, the lion of Israel.
How do you kill a lion?
I have never seen a man who has torn a lion apart. What does the text want to say? The power of God in Samson can tear the lion, simply with his hand. Samson also tore out the city gate and carried it up a mountain. He killed 1000 people with a donkey's jaw.
What does the honey mean?
Never would a bee live in a carrion. Blood and honey do not go together. Why does sweetness come from a killed lion? The lion from Judah is Yezhua HaMashiach. He has been killed. From his death came the sweetness of salvation.
Why do the Jews, their own people, deliver Samson to the Philistines?
It is a repetition of what happened to Jesus. He too was delivered by his own people. This is prophecy in the report about Samson.
Salvation comes from the Jews
1Mo 12,3 And I will bless those who bless you, and him who curses you I will curse; and in you all the families of the earth shall be blessed.
Gal 3,8 But the Scripture, foreseeing that God would justify the nations by faith, proclaimed the good news to Abraham in advance: "In you all the nations will be blessed.
The riddle of the dead lion is solved by faith:
Israel and the Philistines have the same problem: righteousness before God. Everyone needs forgiveness of sins. But the righteous man will live by faith. Faith will be given. Forgiveness is given. Samson gives us faith in the story of Jesus. God gives us a present. Jesus gives forgiveness. Because the Messiah Jesus paid all debts before God, God gives new justice and sanctification. This is what the honey in the dead lion says. To eat the honey, you don't need priests or other mediators. The death of Jesus brings forth this honey. It is about justice. Many people believe in their own justice. Why do so many not believe in the divine truth? Why don't they believe the divine justice in which Jesus lived? Because they do not like it? "I don't like it? What do I have to do with it? I don't want to hear that! I can't understand this! I can't believe this?
THE HOLY BIBLE, NEW INTERNATIONAL VERSION®, NIV®
Samson went down to Timnah and saw there a young Philistine woman.
Then Samson went down with his father and mother to Timnah, and they came to the vineyards of Timnah. And behold, a young lion came towards him roaring.
And they said to him, "We have come down to bind you, that we may give you into the hands of the Philistines. And Samson said to them, "Swear to me that you will not attack me yourselves."
They said to him, "No; we will only bind you and give you into their hands. We will surely not kill you."
